The Buckland - Studio Retreat, sunset in the hills

Here are answers to some of the questions you may have about your stay at
The Buckland (But please feel free to contact us with any other questions or
concerns you may have)

How many studios are on the property?

There are four studios (we call them studios, others might call them chalets, cottages or luxury accommodation units) - each designed for just one couple - spread out along the tree line of lush bush bordering our 40 acre property. With a minimum of 60 meters separating each studio from the next, plus trees and shrubs planted in between the studios, privacy has been maximized.

Are all studios identical?

Yes, they are all the same in terms of lay-out and design. The only difference being varied interior color schemes: studio one has dark brown feature walls and some burnt orange accents, studio two features soft paper bark hues, studio three has cheerful yellows and browns and studio four is all warm layers of chocolaty tones.

All studios face north and west, feature 2 private decks each from where you can enjoy uninterrupted views of the Buckland Valley and Mt Buffalo. The bedrooms are east facing so you wake up to the sun dancing through the canopy of the bush and the birds putting on a concert (that is if you leave the blinds up and the windows open…)

Is your property Star rated under the AAATourism/RACV accreditation scheme?

Yes, we are officially 4.5 Star rated.

Is the access road to your property sealed?

Only the last 900m (McCormack's Lane) and our internal driveways are unsealed but easy to negotiate with any car.

Do all studios have blinds?

Yes. All lower windows have blinds which are completely opaque. They give privacy and the double glazed windows help keeping outside noise to a minimum.

Is breakfast included in the rate?

Whilst all studios are self-contained we offer breakfast as a standard inclusion in all our packages (unless otherwise indicated on our booking calendar or the package description, i.e if the cafe is closed for annual leave). Breakfast is available every morning from 9 am to 11 am at The Buckland – Café (about 300 m walk through pasture). The buffet includes a variety of toasts, jams, marmalade, vegemite, peanut butter and honey, yoghurt, cereal, full cream and no fat milk, orange juice and seasonal fresh and/or home made stewed fruit - all spread out for you to help yourself. A-la-carte cooked breakfast is also available at an additional charge.

Do you cater for special dietary needs?

Yes we do. Please let us know about your dietary requirements when you make a booking and we are happy to provide you with appropriate breakfast options.

What is the check-in procedure?

We don’t have any formal check-in procedure at The Buckland. Check-in is from 3 pm and check-out at 11 am. Early check-in or late check-out are sometimes available depending on our booking situation. Please feel free to contact us on the day before your arrival to confirm availability.
When you arrive, you can go straight to your studio. Certainly. Many of our guests have planned their stay with us or some of the activities they pre-booked as a surprise for their partners for a special occasion or celebration. Just tell us where to discretely send the booking confirmation (if at all) and after that, the keeping of the secret is up to you. You may also like us to order flowers, chocolates or a nice chilled bottle of bubbly to wait for you in your studio upon arrival (see our optional extras page for more details. If you have any particular wishes on how to make your surprise even more exciting, call us or send us and email and we will do our best to make your stay (and surprise) even more special.

The answer is simple: NO. We never divulge any of your details to anybody. We are committed to protecting our guests’ privacy before, during, and after their stay with us.
Your presence at The Buckland is nobody else’s business. We decline to divulge your presence here should anyone inquire – unless instructed otherwise by yourself.

Gift certificates can be purchased on-line or by contacting us by phone. They can be sent anywhere and are available for an amount specified by you or for any of our advertised accommodation package (other than last minute specials). The certificates are valid for one year and the cost is the same as our standard accommodation rates (a surcharge applies for certificates to be sent by express post). If you have your own ideas about the content of a gift certificate, please tell us and we will design a certificate accordingly.

Are there business facilities?

Each studio has a notebook jack for internet connection and a phone for external dialing. Local calls are free of charge and for calls to mobiles and long distance calls Telstra charges apply.
WiFi/wireless internet access is available at our café/guest lounge (BYO notebook or phone with wireless adaptor). We do not provide dial-up modems in the studios.
Facsimile and photocopying services are also available at The Buckland – Café .

Do you enforce non-smoking inside?

Absolutely! We have provided facilities for smokers on the decking outside of each studio and also on the terrace of our cafe. Should guests wish to smoke inside, The Buckland is NOT suitable for them. A minimum cleaning fee of $100 is applicable if evidence of smoking inside is found.
We also ask our guests to be extremely careful when disposing of cigarette butts. Just one carelessly disposed cigarette butt can cause an instant and devestating bush fire.

What should we bring with us?

You should bring your favorite CDs and maybe a favorite book or magazine to read.
You may also wish to bring your own DVDs although The Buckland has its own complimentary DVD library for our guests to choose from.

Is there a supermarket close by?

There are large supermarkets in Myrtleford (on the Great Alpine Road on the way to The Buckland) and in Bright (12 km). There also bakeries and butcher shops in both Myrtleford and Bright.

Do you cater for children?

The Buckland has been designed as a tranquil retreat for just one couple per studio (one king size bed and no other appropriate sleeping positions). Thus the property being unsuitable for children. However, babies in their own portacots are welcome at any time.

Can we bring our pets?

The Buckland is situated on a working farm and surrounded by other farms and there is also a constant presence of native wildlife which makes the property unsuitable for family pets. Guide dogs are of course welcome.
